At a time when our communities are under attack and democracy itself feels at stake, the reports raising serious allegations related to Cesar E. Chavez are especially painful to process. In the San Fernando Valley, many of us have long looked to Cesar Chavez as a symbol of hope, justice, and resilience, which makes this moment even more difficult.
For over 30 years, the CCCCSFV—a multigenerational group of grassroots community advocates—has demonstrated the power of unity and people-driven change. The SFV March for Justice has always been bigger than one man, and as serious allegations about Cesar Chavez surface, we must remain grounded in our commitment to justice—especially for survivors, victims of abuse, and the protection of our children. Accountability must apply to everyone.
My heart is with the victims, with Dolores Huerta, who has helped inspire my own path, and with the many community members who are grieving and grappling with this news.
As we move forward, we will continue to do what we have always done—stand together and fight for justice.
